I love photography. A photograph captures a moment in time, offering a unique perspective on the world and telling a story in a single frame. Whether it's the grandeur of nature, the determination of a craftsman, or the cycle of life in a tiny mushroom pushing through the loam, a good photograph draws us in and makes us part of that journey.

In late 2024, my friend Regan Hutson invited me to join the Mosaic Tap House Photo Club which, unsurprisingly, meets at the Mosaic Tap House in Portland's St. John's district. The club is a wonderful group of photographers who meet every other week to share photos based on that session's prompt, while enjoying one of the fantastic beers on tap at MTH. With prompts like "fleeting moment" and "loud," the themes leave ample room for interpretation, leading to a diverse and inspiring set of submissions each session.

In the spring of 2025, the club decided to produce a "zine" (pronounced "zeen"—a small-circulation, self-published booklet) to celebrate their one-year anniversary. I volunteered to partner with Jason Elwood to design and produce it, functioning as de facto art director while Jason served as project lead. After gathering submissions, we each created initial concepts and reviewed them together to find a direction we felt everyone would be happy with.

Once we decided on our approach, we took our draft to the club for feedback and finalized the details. I've included a portion of the publication below as a preview showcasing the design of the booklet and diversity of photographic styles represented.
